Job's Initiative Funding

Smart Travel Castlebar welcomes the approval of €116,000 in funding for the provision of essential sustainable travel infrastructure in Castlebar.

Thérèse Ruane, Sinn Féin Councillor and Chairperson of Smart Travel Castlebar said:

"This funding is really welcome. It will go a long way in providing essential infrastructure for cyclists and pedestrians in Castlebar. As an organisation, Smart Travel Castlebar has been campaigning, making recommendations and liaising with the local authorities to ensure that Castlebar becomes a more cycle and pedestrian friendly town.

"I'd like to compliment Mayo County Council and in particular, the Sustainable Travel Officer Michael Lyons, for making such comprehensive submissions to the Government's Jobs Initiative to secure this funding. This funding will ensure the provision of cycle lanes, footpaths and bicycle parking which will be completed and in place by November and will go a long way to making Castlebar a healthier, safer and better environment for everyone."
